Charlton Athletic have loaned young goalkeeper Finley Woodham to Southend United for his first senior move. The 18-year-old shot-stopper joins the National League club on a short-term, two-week deal to gain competitive experience.
Woodham has featured for Charlton's under-21 side on several occasions and was part of Jason Pearce’s Professional Development League-winning under-18s squad last season. This loan to Roots Hall provides a key step in his development, offering exposure to a first-team environment at one of the National League's biggest clubs.
Dave Huzzey, Charlton's Head of Individual Development, said the move would give Woodham invaluable experience in a highly competitive setting with a strong fanbase. At Southend, he will provide cover and competition for goalkeeper Jack Sims.
The move comes as Charlton prepare for their next home fixture.
