After his military service, he pursued higher education in Texas before moving to San Diego, where he built a distinguished career with the Veterans Administration Benefits Department. Charlton was not only known for his professional achievements but also for his love of sports, especially Padres baseball, and his passion for golfing with friends. He was a trivia enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with his close-knit group of friends at local hangouts. Charlton is survived by his siblings and numerous nieces and nephews, who will remember him fondly as 'Coach' for his commitment to their softball team. His funeral services will take place on June 12, 2026, at Clairemont Mortuary in San Diego, followed by a military burial at Miramar National Cemetery. The visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with a chapel service at 11 a.m. and burial at 1:15 p.m.
