Charlton Athletic manager Brian Barry-Murphy has emphasised the need for his team to start turning performances into points as they prepare for Saturday's Championship trip to Cardiff City.
The Addicks sit sixth in the table with 12 points from seven games but have drawn their last two matches, including a goalless stalemate with Portsmouth last time out. Barry-Murphy believes his side are playing well but must be more decisive in the final third to secure a win at the Cardiff City Stadium.
"We feel as if we’re playing really well," Barry-Murphy said. "Our performance is the most important thing but even more we have to try to win the game on Saturday."
He acknowledged the challenge posed by a Cardiff side desperate for their first league victory of the campaign, who currently occupy 21st place. "We can’t presume that every game is going to be the same in the Championship," the manager added. "They’re a very strong team with some brilliant individual players."
Charlton's recent form shows one win, three draws and one defeat from their last five outings. They have scored six goals this season while conceding seven, a record Barry-Murphy will be keen to improve upon. The manager confirmed the squad will train on Thursday and Friday with a focus on maintaining composure and making better decisions in attacking areas.
With key players like Collins Sichenje, Kayne Ramsay, Matt Godden and William Mannion currently sidelined, others will need to step up. Top scorer Tyreece Anthony Tupac Shakur Campbell, with three goals, will be central to their plans.
A victory in Wales would consolidate Charlton's position in the top six and keep them within touching distance of the automatic promotion places, just two points behind leaders West Ham. Following the Cardiff match, Charlton's next fixture is at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, 23 September. The fixture against Cardiff is the next entry on Charlton's fixtures schedule, kicking off on Saturday, 19 September.
The original report is at Cardiff City
Cardiff City boss Brian Barry-Murphy confirmed defender Dylan Lawlor is available for Saturday's game at the Cardiff City Stadium. Lawlor has returned to full training. Barry-Murphy said, "Dylan Lawlor will definitely be available. He's good to go." However, Will Fish remains unavailable. Rubin Colwill will miss the match with an ankle problem, while Isaak Davies is also out. Charlton, sitting sixth, face a Cardiff side 21st in the table.
