Charlton Athletic can confirm the departure of Professional Development Phase Coach Kevin James. James has left the club's academy to take up the position as First-Team Manager at National League South side Walton and Hersham. The former Charlton trainee joined the club in July 2023 as a Professional Development Phase Coach, working alongside U18s Lead Coach Jason Pearce and most recently helping the side to the Professional Development League national title. James said: 'From walking through these doors as a young scholar at 16 years old to now leaving as a coach, this club has helped shape me both professionally and personally. To have had the privilege of coaching so many talented young players, building strong relationships and playing a part in their development both on and off the pitch has meant everything to me. I feel the time is right to embrace a new challenge and take the next step in my journey to management. Thank you to every player, member of staff, parent and supporter who has been a part of this chapter with me.' Academy Manager Greg Miller commented: 'We are sorry to be losing Kevin, given his contribution to the academy. Transitioning from coaching roles in the younger age groups, Kevin has been a strong advocate of the good work being done within the U18 school programme over recent seasons. I was always impressed by Kevin's desire to care for the players and try and impart his experiences in a way that supported the players' development. Kevin goes with our best wishes, as we understand his ambitions to become a first-team manager. He will always be welcome and I am sure we will have continued engagement with Kevin in the future.
