Charlton Athletic has reported a significant operating loss of £16.7 million for the financial year ending June 2025, a rise from £13.9 million the previous year. Despite this loss, the club has seen a 27% increase in revenue, climbing from £8.8 million to £11.2 million. The club's management insists that they are in a stable position, notably with no external debt, but they caution that the current financial model in football needs to change to ensure sustainability for aspiring clubs. Chief Financial and Operations Officer Ed Warrick emphasized the importance of addressing the economics of the game to reduce cash losses. The club has invested £3 million in improvements to their stadium and training facilities, which has contributed to their financial figures. Additionally, staff bonuses related to promotion and increased wages in the Championship have impacted costs. On a positive note, Charlton has reported increases in both match attendances and season ticket sales for the 2023-24 season, alongside higher broadcast revenues following their promotion via the play-offs last May. Currently, Nathan Jones's team is positioned 18th in the Championship.
