Charlton Athletic has announced the appointment of Tony Brown, a highly-regarded former Portsmouth figure, as their interim chief financial officer. Brown replaces Ed Warrick and brings 12 years of experience from Fratton Park. Brown spent 12 years at Fratton Park following his appointment in June 2013, after the Blues became fan owned. He successfully re-negotiated all legacy debts to ex-players and stakeholders, resulting in a saving of more than £1m. That helped put Pompey on a solid financial footing moving forward. Brown then continued to be a pivotal presence at Fratton Park following Tornante's 2017 takeover. Following his Fratton Park departure, chief executive Andy Cullen said: 'It has been a privilege over the last four years to work alongside one of the most outstanding and highly-regarded chief financial officers in the football industry.' 'Tony has led the financial transformation of Portsmouth Football Club from the dark days of administration to the bright and positive place where we are today.' 'I am sorry to see Tony leave and personally thank him for all his professionalism, support, guidance and commitment over my own four years at Portsmouth Football Club.' 'Tony can be proud of the strong legacy he leaves behind, as well as his own contribution to a much-loved football club and one well positioned to take the next steps on its own incredible journey.' Former Wentworth Golf Club group finance director Ronan Callaghan replaced Brown as the Blues chief operating officer in February 2026.
