Josh Edwards made his long-awaited return to action as Charlton's U21s twice came from behind to earn a draw at Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday. The result at Hillsborough saw the Addicks' development side show resilience after falling behind in each half.

Edwards, sidelined since last September with an ankle injury, played the opening 45 minutes and set up the first equaliser. "He got down the left, before providing a centre for the in-form Ellis McMillan, who calmly slotted home," Edwards said of the goal. That strike cancelled out Samuel Duruh's opener for the hosts.

Fightback from the spot

Sheffield Wednesday regained the lead later in the match through Will McPartland's effort from a tight angle. Charlton's response came from the penalty spot. Captain Ethan Brown was fouled in the box and took the kick himself. His initial effort was saved by Connal Trueman, but Brown reacted quickest to tap in the rebound.

The match provided valuable minutes for several players, with Edwards and midfielder Rocco Tiitinen being replaced at half-time as part of their managed returns. The point keeps Charlton's development squad competitive as the first team enjoys a solid start to the Championship season.

Charlton's U21s are next in action on Tuesday, when they host Sheffield United at The Valley. Meanwhile, the first team's focus is on their next Championship fixture, an away trip to face Cardiff City. Check the full schedule on our fixtures page.
