Charlton Athletic's winless run in the Championship stretched to nine matches after a 3-1 home defeat to Norwich City at The Valley on Saturday. They have scored 10 goals and conceded 15 this season.

Nathan Jones made four changes to his starting lineup, and his side began brightly. Tyreece Campbell, the team's top scorer with four goals this season in 11 appearances, had a chance inside the opening 20 seconds, only to be denied by Norwich goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw. The early pressure paid off when Charlie Kelman fired Charlton into a 10th-minute lead, finishing an assist from Joe Rankin-Costello.

Norwich's Second-Half Surge

Charlton's advantage was wiped out before half-time. Paris Maghoma equalised for the visitors in the 35th minute, capitalising on a defensive error. Norwich then took control after the break. Mathias Kvistgaarden headed them in front five minutes into the second half, and the points were sealed when Ivan Mesik turned a cross into his own net with a quarter of an hour remaining. Charlton goalkeeper Kelvin Okonkwo, who had been relatively untested until the second half, made two late saves to prevent further damage.

The defeat extends a concerning run of form. Charlton have now lost three of their last five matches, drawing the other two, a sequence of zero wins, two draws and three losses. This recent form includes the 1-3 loss to Norwich, a 2-0 defeat at Watford on Saturday 17 October, a 2-2 draw at Burnley, a 1-1 home draw with Bristol City and a 3-1 loss at Cardiff. Their last victory in the league came back in September against Sheffield Wednesday. Top scorer Tyreece Campbell, who has four goals this season, was unable to add to his tally despite that early opportunity. Manager Nathan Jones expressed frustration post-match, stating his team 'stopped doing the basics' after taking the lead and were punished by a clinical Norwich side.

Jones's side must now regroup quickly for a tough trip to league leaders Middlesbrough next Saturday. The gap to the top of the Championship standings currently stands at 11 points, while Charlton remain just five points above the relegation zone.
