Charlton Athletic have appointed Ben Mansford as their new chief executive. The club confirmed the move this week, filling a position that has been vacant since Charlie Methven left in March 2025.

Chairman Gavin Carter expressed his satisfaction with the appointment. "I'm delighted we've been able to attract someone of Ben's calibre," Carter said. He added that Mansford brings a wealth of experience, a proven track record of success and strong leadership qualities to The Valley.

Carter stated the club had been deliberate in finding the right person to lead its next stage of development. He pointed to progress made over the last three years, both on and off the pitch, and said expectations have rightly grown.

Mansford's background and experience

Ben Mansford arrives with extensive experience from several clubs. He has previously served as chief executive at Leeds United, Barnsley and Blackpool. He also held the role of sporting director at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

His appointment comes at a critical time for the Blues. The club currently sits 19th in the Championship table with 14 points from 12 games, having recorded three wins, five draws and four defeats. Their recent form reads zero wins, two draws and three defeats from the last five, with consecutive losses to Norwich and Watford leaving them 11 points adrift of leaders Middlesbrough. This followed a 2-0 loss at Watford on Saturday 17 October.

Charlton's next challenge is a trip to face that table-topping Middlesbrough side on Saturday 31 October. The fixture presents a stern test for a squad looking to halt its slide, having lost its last two matches. The club's top scorer this season is T. Campbell with four goals, but the team has scored only 11 times while conceding 18, leaving them with a goal difference of minus seven. Carter said the club is proud of its progress but acknowledged the need for strong leadership to meet rising expectations. The appointment of Mansford is seen as a key step in providing that direction.
