Charlton Athletic have officially signed Republic of Ireland winger Millenic Alli from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old arrives at The Valley on a four-year contract after netting five goals in 38 appearances for the Hatters last season. Alli, who joined Luton from Exeter City for a reported £1.5m in January 2025, spent the latter part of the campaign on loan at Portsmouth.

What does Alli bring to Charlton?

Alli is known for his pace, direct running, and ability to cut inside from the left wing. His arrival adds depth to Charlton’s attack as they look to improve on last season’s 19th-place finish in the Championship, where they scored 44 goals and conceded 58, finishing 42 points behind leaders Coventry. Manager Nathan Jones praised Alli’s ambition, stating, "He is hungry, he's ambitious, he wants to do really well at this level and kick-on."

Why this signing matters for Charlton

This is Jones’ fifth summer signing, following the arrivals of Ivan Mesik, Billy Koumetio, Karlan Grant, and Danny McNamara. With Charlton ending last season on a mixed run of two wins and three losses in their final five games (LLWWL), including a 3-1 defeat to Swansea on May 2, 2026, Alli’s creativity and experience could be vital in their push for mid-table stability.

What’s next for Alli at The Valley?

Alli is expected to compete for a starting spot on the left flank, with Jones likely to experiment with formations to accommodate his strengths. The Addicks will hope Alli’s international experience with the Republic of Ireland can help elevate their attacking output in the upcoming Championship season.
